Range Session Notes – June 19

Range Session Notes From today

Decided to hit the range today instead of the garage. Unfortunately the grass tees were full, so I was on mats — but the upside was I was in the shade the whole time, which was nice.

If I could hit on the course like I did today at the range I would be supper happy.

Overall Feel Body felt really relaxed and loose. Was pulling stuff left early in the session but got that straightened out. Worked through the whole bag and hit everything pretty solid.

Keys to My Game

  • No sway
  • Pause at the top
  • Tempo, tempo, tempo on the back swing and the follow thru. Using the term Ernie Els. Ernie on the back swing, Els for the pause at top. Really helps get everything in sync.

When I locked in on those things, I was hitting quality shots — relatively straight, with a slight draw and consistent.

Wedges Finished with wedges as usual. Doing really well hitting targets on the range. Saved a few balls from the bucket I purchased and took them over to the short game center.

Family Sports, part of South Suburban

Has a really has a nice range and practice area. Spots to hit off mats and the grass. A whole short game area with 2 greens you can chip into. Also some bunkers to get in a little sand practice. There is a putt-putt course too.

The 9 hole golf course is kind of its own thing.

The bad about Family Sports 9 hole course:
Not usually in very good shape, lots of divots and huge chunk holes people have taken and not replaced. Get a lot of people learning golf or playing for the first time so it is SUPER slow. There are a couple of really short holes

The good about the course
If you are new and think you might want to give it a try to see what real vs. range golf is its actually a great place to go. You can take your time and learn more about playing.

Short Game / Chipping Moved over to the chipping area afterward. Worked on chipping since its been giving me some issues lately:

  • No sway – just like my regular swing
  • Stay low – I want to stand up too soon on my follow thru
  • Weight forward on the front foot / left foot
  • Don’t lift up — stay down

Club Notes Think I need to open the face a little more on the 56°, and keep it slightly more closed on the 52° — both in practice and on the course. Both clubs were working well today though.

Summary Really promising session overall. Hips were firing, everything felt connected, and the swing felt athletic and in rhythm. Good stuff.
