Wednesday May 27 9 Holes South Suburban

Round Notes — Wednesday, May 27th | South Suburban | 9 Holes

Overall Impressions

Played pretty well for the most part. The driver is still the best club in the bag — feeling like I’m even getting a little more distance out of it now. Chipping is getting better but still some bad spots. Just can’t hit my Vokey 56 degree well, and I dont know why. Choosing the 52 and its much better. Ball contact was decent overall. Still hitting off my back foot a bit — I can tell because I’m thinning them. Need to get my weight forward. Something to work on more.

Hole-by-Hole

Hole 1 — Par 4 | Bogey — First 2 shots good and on in regulation but 3 putt.

Hole 2 — Par 5 | Double Bogey — Good drive, good second shot, third shot went into the sand. Had trouble in the sand and doubled it. Frustrating. Guess I need to practice sand shots or staying out of the sand, haha.

Hole 3 — Par 4 | Bogey — Another good drive, a little left, but got a good kick just to the edge of the fairway. Really good second shot with the hybrid landed right on the front of the green, but it was pretty far from the hole for a long up hiller.

Hole 4 — Par 3 | Bogey — Smoked my 6-iron but went over the green — another example of the improved distance when I get the hips moving correctly. Had a tough downhill chip, left it short, two-putted for bogey.

Hole 5 — Par 5 | Triple Bogey — Bad hole all around. Need to stop having these blow-up holes. Part of the problem is probably trying to swing out of my shorts, I don’t really know why I do that sometimes. Also, I need to take my medicine when I’m in a tough spot and play smarter.

Hole 6 — Par 4 | Bogey — Really good drive. Second shot was a bit chunked and came up short, but that was intentional since going over this green is bad — so I was happy to leave it short but a crappy chip led to bogey.

Hole 7 — Long Par 3 | Bogey — Not a great shot but landed just short of the green. Chipped up and two-putted for bogey.

Hole 8 — Par 4 | Par — Good drive in the fairway, though not the best distance. Put it on the green and two-putted for par.

Hole 9 — Par ? | Par — Really good drive, left of the sand trap, which seems to be the right play — surprised by the distance and how far it went. Pushed the second shot a little right, but the green funnels left toward the hole. Got on the green and two-putted for par.

Final Thoughts

Finished with two pars to close — solid. Overall a pretty good round, some good contact but not the best scoring. I can live with that for now. Can’t wait for my next lesson with Chris — need to figure out the scheduling. Main thing to keep working on: weight shift forward to stop thinning shots.
