Weekend of April 25th
Over the weekend I focused on the drills Chris assigned in my last lesson — primarily the feet-together drill, body turn, and making sure I’m coming down with my wrists rather than casting.
Overall it went pretty well. I also got some playing time in on the garage simulator: nine holes one day and thirteen the next, using those rounds to try to incorporate everything I’ve been working on.
Of the four exercises Chris has me doing, a couple are clicking really well — particularly around forward shaft lean, coming down on the ball, and keeping my wrists cocked through impact. The full swing drills aren’t quite there yet, but that feels right given where I am in the process.
During my simulator rounds I had some discouraging moments where my distance actually felt worse than before. I had to remind myself that it probably has to get worse before it gets better. But then I’d stripe one — genuinely flush — and the distance was better than my normal. So the progress is in there, even if it’s not consistent yet.
Going to keep grinding. I even brought a club into my office so I can work on my positions during the day — forward shaft lean, keeping the wrists back, all of it. Just need to keep putting in the reps on what Chris gave me.
My goal is to make notes after each pracitce session, I think it will help me to go back and remind myself of where I’ve been. I can talk to my sons about it but I feel I really need to put it in writing as well. Will it help? Ah shit, I really don’t know but I think it will help remind me about what I should be doing.
