August 5 — South Suburban, 9 Holes

August 5 — South Suburban, 9 holes

Played the usual nine with the boys on Wednesday. Hadn’t had a real round for a while, guess I’d count the lessons a week ago — just some garage/simulator sessions in between.

Overall feel: Still can’t put it all together consistently. I’ll nail one thing on one shot, another thing on the next, then occasionally everything clicks at once — then back to only some pieces working. Frustrating.

Swing thoughts:

  • Hitting off my back leg still — really need to fix this. The drill I need to really work on: start with feet together, weight stepping forward, ending on my front (left) foot.
  • When I actually get that thought in my head, ball flight is noticeably better.
  • Chipping: mostly fine but had a couple of weird/bad ones, some lifting and some falling back.
  • Catching myself bending my right arm too much at the top of the backswing when I try to swing for distance. Note: it goes better when I stop overthinking and just swing how it feels natural.

Mental game:

  • Got really down on myself mid-round — negative self-talk. Recognizing this isn’t helping and needs work just as much as the swing does.
  • Really makes me question continuing the quest to get better at golf. But I’ve put to much time and money in it to quit now.
  • I need to try and just enjoy getting out and playing with whoever I’m with.

Course management / dumb stuff:

  • Left a club behind on the green — twice. No idea why. Embarrassing, but the group behind us was cool about it.
  • I need to do a better job with my golf expectations.

Score: Not great, shot a 45. Maybe I only remember my good scores from the past, not the bad. I would like to be more like 41.
