Golf Lesson Notes — Wednesday, May 6
Second Lesson with Chris
Warmed up and hit some shots so Chris could assess where my game is at. We discussed what’s been working and what hasn’t, based on rounds and sim sessions since the last lesson.
Key Focus this week: Swing Sequencing
The main thing we worked on is getting the correct sequence from the top of the backswing thru impact.:
Hips → Arms → Club → Torso
My sequence isn’t quite right yet, so that’s the priority. When I got it right, the results were noticeably better — about 20 extra yards with my 7-iron. There were some bad shanks going right, but overall it was encouraging. My backswing and posture (back relatively straight) are in decent shape — it’s really just the sequencing that needs work.
We didnt touch on the driver and chipping but — keeping the focus on sequencing for now.
Drills to Practice
- Hip drill — Hold a club, bend forward at address, and actively flick the left hip out. This promotes proper follow-through and should help with distance.
- Feet-together drill — Start the swing with feet together, then step the lead foot into position during the backswing. This helps train better weight distribution and transfer.
Carry Forward from Lesson 1
- Continue items to work on from first session.
- Add additional drills mentioned about. Do 5 in a row and then switch, work in an actual shot and then start again
Next lesson is in two weeks. Playing in Kansas City on May 8th at Lake Quivera.
