Conditions were far from ideal — 55°F at tee time with rain coming and going throughout most of the round, annoying enough to be a nuisance but not enough to call it. Ironically, the sun came out right at the end. Despite the weather, played pretty well overall.
Hole 1 (Par 4) — Drove it well to the left, thin second shot. but managed to put it right on the green for a two-putt par. Solid start.
Hole 2 (Par 5) — A hole I’ve played badly before, and this was no exception. Double bogey. Decent drive, poor second shot, good third, but chipping is still inconsistent. That said, made the switch from my 56° to a 52° Kirkland wedge, which seems to be working better.
Hole 3 — Great drive, great second shot, two-putt par. One of my best holes of the round. Thought to myself, thats one way to not have problems, greens in regulation. If only it was that easy, haha.
Hole 4 (Par 3) — Pushed my tee shot right, but chipped decently for a two-putt bogey. Although it went right still good contact. I feel better about push shots if I still have good contact.
Hole 5 (Par 5) — Hit a pretty good drive on the right side, then shanked the second shot — not sure what happened there. Recovered with a nice little draw on the third to get on the green, two-putt for bogey. Realized I am probably really exagurating my hit thru down swing. Still need to move the hips (its all in the hips) but not so extreme like practice.
Hole 6 — Really good drive, nice second shot onto the green, two-putt par. Good course management here — I usually come up long on this hole. Took something off it, left an uphill putt, and it worked out much better. Probably my best iron shot of the day.
Hole 7 (Long Par 3) — Hit my hybrid well but came up a little short. Chipped on and two-putted for bogey.
Hole 8 — Another good drive and solid course management. Left a short uphill putt and converted for par.
Hole 9 — Decent drive (I always seem to drift right on this hole — not sure why, but it’s a pattern, maybe bad alignment). Had a long second shot and hit a really nice hybrid that had a little draw on it. I couldn’t quite track in the air, cause the hole is below the fairway a bit but it found the green. Two-putt par.
Final Score: 42 — a solid round given the conditions. Starting to see real improvement from the lessons, which is encouraging — even though it turns out I missed my lesson last night without realizing it. Need to sort out what happened there.
Other things to note, gonna switch to the 52 degree for a while and see if that helps chipping. Also putting hasn’t been great but was better last night. Guess I’m still getting used to my new Scotty Cameron. I’ll give it more time.
Looking ahead: Lucas and I playing a tournament at Wellshire on Friday. Should be fun.
