Weekly nine holes at South Suburban. We played the back nine today, which actually used to be the front nine — they flipped them to start the year. Honestly, I like the new back nine better than the new front nine. Not sure why, just do.

Played pretty well overall. Was hitting the ball solid and working on my keys from my lessons with Chris — really focusing on turning the hips and keeping my hands low through the ball after impact. For the most part, a good day.

Hole-by-hole:

  • Hole 10 (new back 10): Double bogey. Bad second shot — rough start.
  • Hole 11 (par 5, new 11): Bogey, but honestly should’ve been a par.
  • Hole 12 Smoked my drive over the sand trap, which I don’t think I’ve ever done before.
  • Hole 13 Par 3 after that — hit it a little thin, went over the green, okay chip but missed the putt. Bogey.
  • Hole 14 (used to be #5, my nemesis): Hit a good drive, good second shot, barely missed the birdie putt. Par — I’ll take it on that hole.
  • Hole 15 (used to be #6): Really good drive, down the right side. Good second shot with my trusty 3 wood. I was down past the 150 marker is a good leave. Messed up a bit around the green but got up-and-down for par.
  • Hole 16 (used to be #7, up the hill — hardest hole on the course): Decent drive, okay second shot, really good third shot chip to the green but above the hole. Faced a nasty downhill putt — luckily hit the pin, otherwise it probably rolls 10 feet past. Par.
  • Hole 17 (par 3): Hit a good tee shot and ended up pin high on the green. They had the pin in a brutal spot on a tough green — couldn’t do much with it.
  • Hole 18: Water right, which can mess with my head, but I hit an okay drive. Second shot went way long — my GPS hadn’t updated after they moved the greens, so the yardage was off. Smoked it over the hole and had a hard time getting back. Frustrating, but a lesson learned.

Overall: Good contact throughout, which makes me happy. Feels like the lessons are starting to pay off and I’ve only had 2, still 6 to go. Just gotta keep working. Hoping to get out again this weekend — if I can ever get the yard work done.
