Golf is a crazy game — it’s amazing how different a round can be from one day to the next. Same person, same clubs, same balls, different course, could that be why, don’t know, whatever. Anyway, much better round this day than yesterday. Actually hit some good shots and scored a little better — not great, but one of those rounds where I struck the ball well even if I wasn’t scoring all that great overall. Good day.
We teed off, then it started raining with thunder and lightning, so the horn went off and we headed inside. Had a beer, some chips and salsa, and waited it out. Went back out to tee off about 40 minutes later — the course was basically empty, nobody in front of us or behind us, which was great. Turned into a really nice evening.
Highlights, hole by hole:
1 – Bogey. Okay with that.
2 (Par 5) – Drive was kind of crappy, but followed with a decent second shot. Third shot was really good — on the green in regulation, two-putted for par. Nice.
3 – Struggled. Bad tee shot, bad second shot, but pulled out a double bogey which sort of felt like a win, haha. Two good puts
4 (Par 3) – Pushed it a little right but good contact, pin high but another bogey.
5 (Par 5) – Drive was okay, not the greatest. Second shot so-so, but pimped the third shot right onto the green — on in regulation from about 170. Mizuno hybrid has been working really well lately; couldn’t even see the ball land since I was looking right into the sun, but it was on the green. Nice.
6 – Pushed it right, ended up in the rough, punched out for the third shot — actually a pretty good shot but long. Green slopes severely back to front, which makes it tough to putt. Always a tricky hole.
7 (Par 3) – Pulled it a little left but hit it well again. Chipped, missed the chip — needed one more yard and it would’ve been really close. Three-putted after that. Bummer.
8 – Great tee shot, hole turned into a long drive contest — smoked my drive, ended up the longest, but it landed in the second sand trap. Bummer. Got it out clean though, on the green in regulation, made par.
9 – Another good drive, but pushed it a little right, and hit a tree on my second shot. Had a third shot from about 100 yards out, just missed the slop to the right of the green, chipped it close, and made the putt for bogey. Not bad.
Putter’s coming around — always nice. Saved a couple of shots. Chipping much better now too, was having problems but not so today. Not the best score of the season, but a solid, enjoyable day with good contact and nobody else on the course.
