Wilshire Golf Course

Friday, May 22 · Company tournament with Lucas for his work. They had some openings so, joined just to play. We didn’t enter our scores since we won’t be playing consistently over the summer, Lucas included. Plus my play was not good

Course notes

Mostly straight layout with plenty of trees. Haven’t played here in years — greens were faster and harder than remembered. Pretty much your typical City and County of Denver golf course.

✓ Driver – Straight, mostly in fairway

✓ Irons – Some good shots, decent seconds

52°Wedge — chipping okay

56° Retired — not using anymore

What worked

  1. Driver straightness, fairways hit pretty much all day for the most part
  2. A couple of longer shots that I needed hybrid, not too bad there
  3. Some decent iron shots, just have to make sure I commit
  4. 52° chipping – better once I changed
  5. Putting ok, 3 or so did come up short that I had the right line

Areas to fix

  1. Chipping – why am I have such an issue here. Used to be my best part of my game
  2. Overall Hip rotation — not firing through on some shots. I do need to keep working on that aspect of my game.
  3. Playing smart golf. Not going for hero shots, layups aren’t necessary bad if it saves me from hitting a tree and not going anywhere.

Takeaway

One of those days, keep practicing, and look forward to the next lesson. The fundamentals are there — driver and irons showed it. Hip turn and short game are the focus going forward.
